WESTERN RED CEDAR
Every year we cut wood strips in the fall. We order the best (A) grade
Western Red Cedar from Washington. This year 5 of us spent 14 hours
stripping the wood, and when it's gone, that's all there is until next
fall.
2005 Woodstrip Prices Yes this is correct we havn't cut wood since 2005 so the prices hold. Good for you!
All prices are for bundles of 10 strips, priced at 27 cents per linear foot.
Prices do not include sales tax. We
are not able to ship strips common carrier. If you are in
Minnesota/Wester Wisconsin, it may be possible, inquire about next
canoe shipment through your area..
You will need approximately 5 to 6 bundles to make a canoe.
16 foot bundle - $43.20
17 foot bundle - $45.90
18 foot bundle - $48.60
19 foot bundle - $51.30
20 foot bundle - $54.00
Note the longer lengths. You can not find longer lengths of western red cedar in the midwest.
FIBERGLASS
We carry fiberglass cloth in 4 oz. weight (50 inches wide) and 6 oz.
weight (60 inches wide). Cloth prices vary by roll, please call for
current prices. Presently, as of 4-1-7, the prices are $6.00 and $8.00
per yard, and that is no april fools joke.
EPOXY VS POLYESTER
We carry both polyester resin and epoxy. You will need two gallons to make a canoe no matter which system you use.
There are positives and negatives to the use of either product. Plan on
a discussion when you come over to purchse these items as to which you
shoul use.
The epoxy is Pro Tech Marine, a high end gloss
product equal in quality to Moss, West Systems. One gallon of epoxy and
one quort of hardener is $87.00
Pumps for this epoxy system is set for a 3:1 ratio and are $15 a set.
If you go with the Polyester resin, which I recommend for the beginner
builder, the cost is $23.00 per gallon and the hardener is $2.00 for 2
oz.
OTHER CANOE BUILDING ITEM:
The Late Betty Ketter, The Canoe Lady always said 3 our of every 10
canoes started never get fininshed. Rather, the builder just gives up
and comes and buys a canoe.
At the least, many that start
building a canoe have good intentions to make the thwarts, yoke,
gunwales, seats etc, etc, etc. Well, 6 out of ten get at least
impatient and come to buy these items just to get the damn canoe done.
I believe, more often than not, the wife is the one that is fed up with
your project. Either way, below you will find a number of items to make
your project a little easier.
