Guided Tours for the Public
Ketter Canoeing
also provides "GUIDED TOURS" in and around the Twin Cities about once a month
through out the summer. The cost for the day is $50 per person. It
includes the canoe or kayak (doesn't matter if you bring your own),
paddles, pfd, and a small lunch. You may want to supplement the lunch
with your own snacks. We meet at a designated spot near the river or
creek we are paddling. Ketter Canoeing will shuttle the canoes and
kayaks on our big trailer. We shuttle ourselves as needed.
2007, we have 5 trips planned; Sunday April 22 is on the Elk River,
Sunday May 20 is on the north fork of the Crow River, Sunday, August 12
is on the Mississippi starting at Monticello (learn to read the river
on this trip), and Sunday October 14 is the color tour on the St. Croix
starting at Taylor's Falls.
Reservations can be made simply by e-mailing Ketter Canoeing or calling the main number at 763-560-3840. Happy Paddling!
Elk River Sunday April 22
The Elk River trip will actually be put in near Big Lake, MN. The Elk
River is a small crooked little river. At this time of year, the run
off is swift.
Elk River Cancelled!
ATTENTION,
RIVER UPDATE AS OF 4-21-07 BUMMER!! Elk River has dropped more than a
foot since last Sunday. At that time, we made it through hitting
bottom only twice. But, it still was marginal. We thought about
going with plastic kayaks and canoes. Had we gotten even some of
the rain that Dave Dahl, Channel 5 had predicted, we probably
would have chanced it. So we blame him. Lesson here.
For trips upcoming, we will have a contingency plan if rivers get too
low instead of cancelling.
North Fork Crow River May 20
Last year, we paddled the South Fork of the Crow River. A very crooked
little river at this point, we will be putting in near the
Humphry-Arends Memorial County Park just north of Waverly Minnesota. We
will be paddling about 10 miles to the boat ramp near Crow Springs
County Park. This river can rise and fall quickly pending the amount of
rain runoff we get in May. If it is high, we are looking at abut 1 hr
15 minute paddle. If it is low, it could be about a 3 hour paddle. As
we get close to the date, and we know the approximate water level, we
may adjust our put and and take out to make the trip closer to a 3 hour
tour.
Mississippi River from Monticello to Dayton August 12 Last
year, this trip was cancelled due to the lack of water. Yes, the mighty
Ol' Miss was too darn low. At normal depth, this stretch of the river
provides us with numerous ripples and less than 1 rapids'. This
provides us a perfect river to show the relationship between current,
wind and the bottom of the river. In other wards, we will show the
basics in how to read a river. How to find that little river within the
big river.
St. Croix from Taylors Falls to O'Brien State Park. October 14 The
St. Croix is a wide gentle river with a sandy bottom. Easy to paddle
and easy to take in the beauty of the St. Croix Valley which is lines
with lots of maple and oak trees. The colors are spectacular, and
you'll see migrating waterfowl, raptors, and possibly a crane!
